In Belgium, to participate in a public works contract exceeding certain thresholds, a contractor must hold an accreditation issued by the FPS Economy. This system of classes and categories is a fundamental element of the public construction sector. Here is a comprehensive guide to help you navigate it.

What is contractor accreditation?

Accreditation certifies that a company has the technical and financial capacity required to carry out public works. It is an essential prerequisite for accessing public works contracts in Belgium.

  • Mandatory for works contracts with an estimated value of EUR 75,000 or more (class 1)
  • Issued by the Accreditation Commission of the FPS Economy
  • Valid for 5 years, renewable upon request
  • Certifies the company's technical, financial and integrity capabilities

Accreditation classes (amounts)

Accreditation classes determine the maximum value of works a company is authorised to carry out. There are 8 classes, from class 1 (small contracts) to class 8 (very large projects).

Categories and subcategories
